This week's objective was to begin work on chapter 1 of the final report and to discuss the design of the AED circuit. Chapter 1 will consist of the background information about the project: the conception of the project, overall outline of the scope of the project, and include the block diagram for the general outline of the AED circuit. On Sunday, I will have the opportunity to check in with my off-site advisor to discuss specifics of the circuit design and begin the building stage. For this project, the goal is to simply prove that it is possible to convert a phone into an AED, so particular features on the AED, such as the voice prompt and fibrillation detection, will not be included. These features are not, however, to be disregarded and will be included in an analysis of future applications and testing. The general features of the AED include the functional microprocessor unit, a driver unit, an intermediary power unit, and a single pathway coil unit that generates the high voltage needed for shock deliver. Further specifications as to the exact details of the circuit are expected to appear as the project progresses, including the outcome interaction between the android system and circuit as mentioned in last weeks blog entry.
